OUR BUSINESS
CRF (Colac Otway) has a uniquely integrated approach to process and quality control management, encompassing:
- Better utilisation of technology
- Creating partnerships along the value chain
- Creating work teams and a continuous improvement culture
- Adoption of more flexible structures and work processes
With a fully integrated plant CRF is able to process almost the entire lamb carcase:
- About one sixth of the lambs leave the plant as full carcases for further processing by butchers
- The remaining lambs are value added in the further processing area at CRF into prime lamb cuts, including legs, racks and eye of loin, and transported to distribution centres all over Australia
- Approximately one container of lamb trim per day will be exported to international markets
- Skins are partially value added on site and sold for processing in Europe
- Runners (small intestines) are sold for manufacture into sausage meat
- Offal and blood by-products are sold for manufacture into pet food
Quality standards have continued to be an important aspect of the production process, with independent testing of products indicating that CRF (Colac Otway) is consistently meeting the highest quality category as specified by the Australian Standards and Australian Quarantine Inspection Service. These quality standards are reflected by the plant receiving export listing for Canada, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, United States of America, Japan, Mexico and Taiwan.
